What I am Doing and What I am Uncertain About

If you arrived at this blog because you are searching for home schooling I hope you find the next 5 lines helpful. This is what my husband and I decided to do/ still doing. This is what I am sure of:

1. I did not Bring School Home.
2.  My children will miss out on what school kids are into and that is not bad in itself. It  might even be better.
3. Attitude is better than grades.
4. If my child wants a numerical or letter grade for a given subject she (my son is too young to ask for this) compute it herself and tell me about it. I can show her how but she has to come up with her own criteria.
5. As a mother/ educator, I need and I will get help. I do not and will never know everything. Example, I can not play the piano, violin, read musical notes (despite having music lessons in school for 6 years.) So I need help with this and many other things/ subjects. Another example, playing Badminton with me is nowhere near playing Badminton with friends.

Here are 2 thoughts/ questions I am not sure of the answer and I don't know what to do. I find myself constantly thinking about:
1. The general question of what's going to happen five years from now? This really keeps me on my toes. I know that we reap what we sow...
This is how I see it (all other factors remain constant which means to say there will be no famine, war, etc):
how we spend or act today + time = five year from now reality.
2. Will they (specially my eldest) be safe if we send them away for college? And where? And why there? My husband and I didn't leave our family to go to university so this is uncharted territory for the both of us...

If you arrived at this blog searching for homeschooling or for whatever reason you landed here and have some encouraging thoughts on the two points I am struggling with and not sure about, do share it with me.

Hectic Week for Me

Being busy with the up coming Mommy Sense event with all the little details to prepare and put together is making me miss my little ones. I already told them that this week, I will be particularly busy. Two days ago, I found time (a total of 40 minutes more or less) to sit with my dear little boy Nh and my beloved L. I was with Nh as he was cutting paper and inspiration struck me! I have this idea for a soap dish! If my idea will materialize I have Nh to thank for!

L complained that she is bored! This makes me feel guilty and I see this as L telling me I need to spend time with her. Unlike As who has her academic goals to accomplish and her violin (she  was in Agdao Violin Institute this afternoon) and A who has her academic goals and ballet and her blog and her book to finish etc Nh and L are far more dependent on me.

I told L that she should help me make some gift wrapper.

 L preparing what we need...

Crayon vs Alex, the craft battle!!!
I must break just a tiny piece of you white crayon to make my plan happen.
L took the pics...

L at work!

Thanks for this little time I spent with L and Nh I have something to hold on to in this busy week. This evening I planned and look forward to spend the evening with my little ones. I vowed to stay with them until they all fall asleep. And while As, L and I were in bed doing some coloring page activity that L got from Toy Kingdom, Nh was busy by the table.

He suddenly came up to me and said "for you" handing me a paper ice lolly aka ice drop aka popsicle! He made it all by himself! Oh wow!!! Proud and touched I had to take a picture. As burst out laughing saying, "He used A's emery boards as his stick!"

TOINK!!! But in my heart says, "Oh how cute and smart you are!" He did not know it was an emery board aka nail file.

Then, he got the paper ice lolly aka ice drop aka popsicle from me and said "wait mommy it's not yet finish!"
A showed him what the emery boards are for he looked and listened but of course we can not destroy his paper ice lolly aka ice drop aka popsicle on an emery board!

Hold on my little ones, specially L, after this weekend I will be much less hectic!
And I am so excited for the pictures that will come from Mommy Sense event! The moms assigned to take the pictures will be posting it on the facebook page!

Advance happy weekend to all!!!

Big Clean Up Coming Up

Just after Halloween and before Christmas clean up is about to commence! This is the biggest clean up I do every year for my home! I am such a slave to this that not a year goes by with out me doing this "over haul."
Everybody is expected to help:
  • Cleaning
  • Sorting
  • Boxing Up
  • Scrubbing
Until finally, decorating for Christmas can happen!

This means gearing up on new cleaning products. Messy Bessy has a dealer discount and I certainly would like to avail of this! If you want to buy with me, I will cover the shipment cost. So your Messy Bessy items will arrive Davao FREE of shipping cost!!! Just look at the price in their site and let me know that you want to purchase with me by:

  • leaving a comment here on the blog, leave your email too. I must be able to contact you.
  • sending me a message  on Facebook
  • E-mail me with the Subject: Messy Bessy
  • Text or call me at 0918 938 2591.
Here's what I am buying:

This is #1 on my list! Yes Lavender Laundry Powder and it does not clog up my washing machine and is gentle enough for everybody! We use this for all our laundry including the torso socks that As needs for her scoliosis brace. I think of all their products, this is the most reasonably priced and a must have for me.

I am getting 2 litters since i need a lot of this. I also use this for The POD and it comes out cheaper if I buy the big one.

This is something I appreciate although not a real must have. This makes me happy and it does get the job of "refreshing" a stinky bag quick. There's a ballet bag, badminton bag, bag for Nh, Dad's bag and my bag and I am sure some other bag I am forgetting now, that must be turned inside out and air out often! Oh think wet socks I am sure you can almost sniff what I mean.

Because I am anticipating all the Christmas dish washing we will be doing I am getting a big one! I am super happy that the last messy bessy dispenser I had lasted for 5 months. This time I am cosidering buying 2 dispensers just in case of a break down? And also because there are new dish cleaners.

I did not see this in the Messy Bessy site but it was in the reseller product list.

I like this one too! One in every bathroom and one in the kitchen is my illusion. The reality is I have a 750 g in the kitchen and another one for all the bathrooms.

I am not sure if should label this as expensive or not but here's my quick comparison.
Glass Cleaner with a similar bottle in the grocery is P85.00 for 250 ml
Wood Polish in an aerosol can is P263.00 for 330 ml
Whichever I am still getting Woody Wood Cleaner & Conditioner along with Squeeky Clean Glass Cleaner since I expect my young ones to help and the younger they are the less careful. I hope my price comparison will help you sort it out.

I told my little ones,  that someone told me, I can't remember who, that if I see 1 cockroach then there must be at least 5 more! Yikes!!! Who would not get paranoid? I don't buy the big one coz in my head I think that if I store this for a long time then the content inside the bottle will loose its potency! So I just buy as needed!

If you want to learn more about Messy Bessy you can read up here. There are more products on their site that I did not include in this post. Just let me know what you like. You are not limited to what I've written here.

Here's the plan: I will purchase the item you like along with my orders. Your shipping is FREE. You pay me thru the bank or drop your payment at The POD. You can look at more Messy Bessy Products here. Just remember I need to know what you want and you must settle your total amount due on or before Oct 28, I will have to finalize my order by this date, this way the items will be here by the end of the 1st week November! And I can start my big clean up.

Pumpkin Carving!!!

We bought a pumpkin to carve and to eat! As Halloween fever is raging in our home now with all the DIY projects spearheaded by A, here is a link to her blog and here is another post from her.  This is like a family tradition now, buying and carving and cooking pumpkin! Pumpkin at Malagos cost P180 per kilo, at least a days ago that is the price. I am hoping it will get cheaper as we move closer to Halloween. We got a 1.5 kg pumpkin! What joy!

 As with our little pumpkin!

Pumpkin carving for Halloween never fails to delight!

 Getting the "insides" out.

Drawing the eyes and mouth with fangs before cutting them out!

Busy with seeds and talking...

With the pumpkin carving almost done, its time we prepare for lunch.

Here we are!!! Now we have to wait for night time!!! Or to say it in a Halloween tone, we shall wait for darkness to come...

As night fell upon the land, our little pumpkin turned into a Jack O' Lantern...

What excellent timing too that our cat, Ginger is ready to mate! This is adding some Halloween feel in our home. She is constantly meowing and looking out of the window. This is spooking out Nh and L! I have to explain to both that it has nothing to do with Halloween. Anyway, my explanation didn't seem to clear things out for them.

Our plan so far is to go back to Malagos a day or 2 before the 31st  (the outlet near Assumption College, not the farm/ resort) buy pumpkin to once again carve. As, L and Nh will go trick or treating while A will cook and prepare the house for our return ! I wish she would go trick or treating though. What about you what will you be doing this Halloween?

How quick!!!

I had a wonderful time during the September Mommy Meet Up with Althea. She explained to us how she got into Life Casting and showed us some of her recent works. We had new moms and babies and dads too. Althea unceremoniously picked out a winner from our cup full of baby names.

I was surprised to witness how quick and easy it was to get the mold. Mom simply had to wipe off the little gel that got stuck in baby's hand.
Here are some of the questions asked during the meet up:Is it safe?
Althea says: "yes, the mould is the only material that will come in contact with you and your baby. Our mould is sea weed based so its natural, nontoxic, and safe."

How old should my baby be?
"There's no age limit. anyone can have a cast"

How long will it take before we can get the finish product?
" 2-3 weeks from the day of moulding."

Why that long?
"because the craft has to undergo several stages. These stages require curing whch takes time"

Is the frame/ base/ picture included in the price?"
"yes, the prices we give are inclusive of the base or frame and picture"

Can it be our picture or will you be the one taking the picture?
"Either, I will be bringin my camera just in case you want me to take your photo. Or it could be a photograph of your choice. it really depends on you."

How much?
"The price depends on the age of the baby and the type of package.Im giving away 20% discount as a special introductory price
> 6months

2 hands 2 feet - 5000 (now 4000)
2 hands - 3500 (now 2800)
2 feet - 3500 (now 2800)
1 hand 1 foot - 3500 (now 2800)"

Ideas started coming up such as putting baby's hand cast on to of the cake for her baptism/ dedication
On top of cake for first birthday
Couples casting their hand for the wedding cake
The whole family having all their hand and/or feet cast and make it part of a lamp or something LOL!!!

Seriously, somebody quipped "What about the face? Can we have a face cast?!"
Bwahahahahaha :D

For more pictures of the Meet Up for September you can look here! Looking forward to November Mommy Meet. There will be no meet up at The POD this October because we are taking part in something super exciting!
Looking forward to a lot...
Also, The POD is now open everyday from 10 am to 6:30 pm except on Sundays.
