Hospital Tour

I just arrived home from the first ever organized hospital tour for my class in Davao Doctors Hospital. A midwife and resident conducted the tour and showed us around. They answered questions that the couples asked. I am happy that the 4 couples who plan to give birth in Davao Doctors had a hospital tour. As I said its a first time for the class, for me. I have been to their labor room before but it was not a class tour. One of the good doctors showed me around which was what other couples had before. Their doctors took them and showed them around.

A hospital tour is an activity I organize for couples who attend Childbirth Preparation Class at The POD. It does not mean that I represent the hospitals we visit. I merely call the hospital/ head nurse and ask if we can visit and they can show the couples around, what to expect, what they have and how they do things. The couples get a general feel of the place and can make up their minds based on what they saw. When couples sign up for the class they write down where they plan to have their baby and that's the hospital we visit. In cases where a home birth is being planned they simply write down their back up hospital. The orientation is usually done by a nurse, midwife, resident doctor or both, It depends on the hospital.

The first hospital to open their doors to this is Brokenshire Hospital. They have been having a hospital tour since 2006. The hospital tours in Brokenshire took a brief rest when they were renovating their labor/ delivery complex. I remember that when I had my Childbirth Classes with Mrs Gamay Dacanay as far back as 1997, we already had an "orientation"/ hospital tour in Brokenshire Hospital. My husband and I got to see the labor and delivery room and meet the staff before the big day. My husband and I had never been anywhere near a labor or delivery room before. We were excited and scared and in the end we felt relieved, happy and ready- I wish/ hope for this for the couples in Childbirth Preparation Class.

Scared Stiff by a Sticker Book

My 3rd girl, L, loves sticker books. I personally don't like them, but she devours them. My mom, I think, likes them a lot too as she is the constant source. My mom limits her self to buying science animal sticker books. I think she gets it that dress me up, princess stuff will be frowned upon by me!!! Last week, she gave L another sticker book with the title,  "Wet and Wild". To my surprise L just scanned it, then left it on the table for the dust to land on. I thought maybe she's busy with something else or she's saving the best for last... But this afternoon I scanned the sticker book and she has not "touched" it at all.

I asked her if she would like to work with it and she said "Its too scary." I told her that we should do it together since we had an hour before we had to leave to pick up her older sister and that I will sit with her thru the scary stuff.  She worked with the farm animals sticker book a few months ago without my help at all. She should be able to do this!!!
Me being me, I chose the page that said "Weird and Wonderful" to work on, which spooked her out even more.  So I told her not to fear as this is the closest we'll ever get to the scary creatures. She did not want to hold the stickers. Luckily, we had the time and energy to be patient with each other. I had to take the stickers out first so she does not have to touch them only the sticky under part. I can see her stiffen as I hand her the tiny harmless sticker. But she went on working and after sticking them, she would read the short description to me.
After one page I asked her if she wants to continue and she said she wanted to work with the "Beaks and Feathers" page. She thinks its better "because its not so under water."  And so we did work on this, but this time it was mostly her.
That covers our science and loud reading academics for this week... until next week... until the stickers run out.

Tea and Cookies for our First Meet Up for 2012

Saturday morning was all rainy and damp! I became a bit nervous after dropping my eldest girl to ballet, while at a stop sign, I got a text from 3 moms saying they couldn't make it. I thought, what if nobody came? Then the traffic light turned green and I drove to The POD thinking, this would make the little ones at home happy with all the extra cookies they will have. 45 minutes later, the first couple arrived, followed by a mom to be and so on... Despite the rain, 9 mommies, 2 daddies, 4 babies and a tita/ lola came to the  The POD for our first Meet Up for the year! I wanted the activity to be a venue for moms to just chat and exchange "notes".
Our chats ranged from baby food, baby ear wax, bathing , labor, partners, sedation, breastfeeding, baby wearing and sleep. At one point there were like 3 groups in the room chatting all at once.
We tried 2 nursing teas and 2 kinds of cookies: Major Milk Makin Chocolate Chip Cookies and Malungay Chocolate Chip Cookies .

Our eldest baby fell asleep at this point.

Voting Cards
I feel so blessed. Thank you for coming and I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did!
The next Meet Up will be on Feb. 18, Saturday. Time 9:45 to 11 am.
I am looking forward...

She's Turning 8...

Oh my dear girl! Your wit, your plans, your fears.
The way you look at things, put things, how you feel for creatures great and small...
 I love you...Forever.
I love you now, when your turn 8, all the way until you 88...
At the dinner table, a few hours ago.
ME: Hey, do you want anything for your birthday?
L: "Yes, I want not to be 8."
Me: Sorry, I can't help you with that. You will really turn 8 on your birthday.
L: "I want a horse."
Me: Now where will we put that? Lets see, if we can find one as small as Luna Maybe that.
Luna our 3rd Rabbit
If you, my dear girl L, had all the space in the worlds you'll probably cultivate an anthill and get yourself an elephant? I know you know a horse is impossible. Or do you? Maybe we should just go horse back ridding... And maybe I should make a story book for you? Maybe both?
